In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Form the mixture into 4 equal patties.

Prepare the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes until they reach your desired doneness. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
