Method
Cocktail
Measure
Measure 1 oz gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz sweet vermouth into a mixing glass or shaker. Use equal parts by volume for a classic Negroni balance.
Add Ice
Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice. If using a shaker, fill it about two-thirds with ice to properly chill and dilute.
Prepare Glass
Place 3–4 large ice cubes or a single large cube into a chilled old-fashioned (rocks) glass.
Strain
Strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared rocks glass over the ice using a julep or Hawthorne strainer. Aim for a clean pour so the drink sits clear on the ice.
Garnish & Finish
Express Orange Peel
Take one piece of orange peel (about 1.5–2 inches). Hold it skin-side toward the drink about 3–4 inches above the glass and give it a firm twist to express the oils over the surface. Run the peel around the rim briefly to transfer oils, then drop it into the drink or rest it on the ice as garnish.
Optional: Add an orange slice on the rim for visual effect or use a half lemon twist instead if you prefer a slightly different aromatic profile.
