Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass, add 1.5 oz Diplomático rum, 0.5 oz Bombay Sapphire gin, 0.5 oz Campari, 0.75 oz Regal Rouge red vermouth, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
Prepare glass and garnish
If you used ice to chill the serving glass, discard that ice and water. Place a single large ice cube in the chilled Old-Fashioned glass. Express an orange peel over the glass by holding the peel skin-side down above the drink and giving it a firm twist to spray oils across the surface; then rub the peel on the rim and drop it into the glass. Add one candied (garrapiñada) nut on a cocktail pick or drop it gently into the drink as an optional nod to the name.
Strain and serve
Fine-strain or double-strain the stirred cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared Old-Fashioned glass over the large ice cube. Give the drink a quick gentle stir (1–2 turns) in the serving glass to marry the garnish oils. Serve immediately.
Tasting notes
The Diplomático rum provides a rich, molasses-forward base, the gin adds floral-citrus lift, Campari brings bright bitterness, and Regal Rouge contributes sweet-herbal depth. The candied nut garnish adds a crunchy, caramelized aroma that complements the rum's sweetness.
