Preparation

1

Chill glass

Place the martini glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure it is well chilled.

2

Prepare cucumber

Use a peeler or mandoline to slice a long, thin cucumber ribbon for aroma and a wheel for garnish. If using a lemon twist, cut a thin strip of peel avoiding pith.

3

Stir or shake

Add Hendrick's Gin (2.5 oz) and dry vermouth (0.25 oz) to a mixing glass filled with 6 ice cubes. Gently stir with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted. (If you prefer a slightly more aerated martini, you may shake for 8–10 seconds, but stirring preserves clarity.)

4

Rinse (optional)

For a more subtle vermouth presence, swirl the 0.25 oz of dry vermouth in the chilled glass to coat the inside, then discard or pour into the mixing glass before adding gin and ice. If you choose this method, adjust directions accordingly.

5

Strain

Discard the ice water from the chilled martini glass if used. Using a Hawthorne or julep strainer, double-strain the stirred cocktail into the chilled martini glass to keep it clear and free of shards.

6

Garnish and finish

Lay the cucumber ribbon inside the glass or float a cucumber wheel on the surface. Express the lemon twist (if using) over the drink by holding it peel-side down and giving it a quick twist to release oils, then rub the rim and drop it in or discard, per preference.

Serving

7

Serve immediately while cold. Provide a small plate for the cucumber garnish if desired. Enjoy responsibly.
