Method
Chill and prepare
- 1
Chill the can
Ensure the can of Coca‑Cola is properly chilled (ideally 35–45°F / 2–7°C). If not chilled, place the unopened can in the refrigerator for at least 1–2 hours or in an ice water bath for 15–20 minutes.
- 2
Serve
- 3
If serving over ice: add the ice cubes (4 pieces or to taste) to your glass. For minimal dilution, use larger ice cubes.
- 4
Open the can carefully: hold the can upright on a level surface and lift the tab to break the internal seal. Allow any initial hiss to subside to avoid excessive foaming.
- 5
Pour Coca‑Cola slowly down the side of the glass (or directly into the can if drinking from it) to reduce foam. Fill until about 1 cm (1/2 inch) from the rim to prevent overflow.
- 6
Garnish if desired: squeeze a lemon or lime wedge lightly over the top and drop it into the glass, or add a maraschino cherry.
- 7
Insert a short drinking straw if using, and serve immediately while fizzy and cold.
Storage and finishing tips
- 8
If you don't finish the can, reseal with a reusable can cap or transfer remaining soda to a sealed container and refrigerate. Consume within 24–48 hours for best carbonation and flavor.
- 9
Avoid shaking the can or pouring from a shaken can to minimize loss of carbonation and spillage.
