Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place an old-fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the glass is nicely chilled.

2

Add the Courvoisier VSOP, orange liqueur, simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and Angostura bitters into a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled with plenty of ice.

3

Stir (preferred for spirit-forward cocktails) for about 20–30 seconds until well chilled and properly diluted. If you prefer a slightly brighter, more aerated profile, briefly shake for 8–10 seconds instead.

4

Discard the ice or water from the chilled old-fashioned glass. Place a large ice cube in the glass.

5

Strain the mixed cocktail over the large ice cube into the chilled glass using a julep strainer or Hawthorne strainer to catch any ice shards.

Garnish & serve

6

Express the oils from an orange twist by holding it skin-side down over the cocktail and giving it a sharp squeeze so the essential oils spray onto the surface of the drink.

7

Run the twist around the rim of the glass for extra aroma, then drop the twist into the drink as a garnish.

8

Serve immediately as an after-dinner sipper. Recommend pairing with dark chocolate or a plate of dried fruit and nuts.
