Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Glass

Chill an Old Fashioned glass by filling it with ice water. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Muddle Ingredients

In a separate mixing glass, place the sugar cube. Add the Peychaud's bitters and a few drops of water. Muddle the mixture until the sugar is dissolved.

  3. 3

    Add Rye Whiskey

Pour the rye whiskey into the mixing glass with the muddled bitters and sugar. Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir until well chilled.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Glass with Absinthe

Empty the ice water from the Old Fashioned glass. Add the absinthe to the glass, swirling it around to coat the interior. Discard any excess absinthe.

  5. 5

    Strain and Serve

Strain the chilled rye whiskey mixture into the prepared Old Fashioned glass.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Express the oils from the lemon peel over the drink, then drop it into the glass as a garnish.
