Method
Cheese & accompaniments
- 1
Bring cheeses to room temperature
Remove cheddar, brie, and goat cheese from the refrigerator 30–45 minutes before serving so flavors open up and textures soften.
- 2
Place the blocks/wheels on the serving board with some space between varieties. If the brie is whole, leave it whole; for the cheddar, cut one end into 1/4" slices to make it easy to pick up. Crumble or slice the goat cheese log into small rounds or loose pieces for spreading.
- 3
- 4
Toast & chop nuts
If nuts are not toasted, warm a small dry skillet over medium heat and toast the nuts, stirring, for 3–4 minutes until fragrant and lightly browned. Chop coarsely and scatter a portion in a small bowl to serve alongside cheeses or sprinkle over the goat cheese after drizzling with honey.
Fruit
- 5
Wash and dry all fresh fruit. Remove stems from grapes and place in small clusters so guests can pick easily.
- 6
Core the apple and slice thinly. To prevent browning, rub the apple slices lightly with a cut lemon or tuck them under other fruit when arranging, or prepare them last so they stay fresh.
- 7
Core and thinly slice the pear. Arrange slices in a fan near the brie — pear pairs especially well with soft cheese.
- 8
Halve dried apricots and arrange in a small pile. If using fresh figs, halve them and place cut-side up near the goat cheese so honey can be drizzled over both.
Crackers & bread
- 9
- 10
Arrange assorted crackers in small stacks and fanned lines on the board so different textures are easy to grab. Place toasted baguette slices near the brie and goat cheese.
Assembly & garnish
- 11
On a large serving board or platter, position cheeses first (cheddar, brie, goat cheese) spaced apart. Place small bowls with honey, mustard, and chopped toasted nuts next to appropriate cheeses.
- 12
Arrange fruit in groups around the cheeses: grapes in loose clusters, apple and pear slices fanned, dried apricots and figs near the soft cheeses. Tuck crackers and toasted baguette slices into empty spaces so the board looks abundant but not crowded.
- 13
Finish with a few rosemary or thyme sprigs tucked between items for aroma and visual appeal. Lightly sprinkle the goat cheese with chopped nuts, a drizzle of honey, a pinch of coarse sea salt, and a crack of black pepper if desired.
- 14
Provide small cheese knives and spreaders for each cheese, and toothpicks if you like for picking grapes or figs. Serve immediately.
