Method

Beverage

  1. 1

    Chill and prepare glass

Place a highball or tall glass in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes to chill, or fill it with ice to cool while you prepare ingredients.

  2. 2

    Add ice

Fill the chilled glass about three-quarters full with ice cubes (roughly 1 cup). Using plenty of ice keeps the drink cold and reduces dilution from melting.

  3. 3

Measure and pour diet cola concentrate

Measure 1.5 fl oz of diet cola syrup or concentrate (adjust 1โ€“2 fl oz to taste depending on brand strength). Pour the syrup directly over the ice in the glass.

  4. 4

    Top with cold carbonated water

Slowly pour 12 fl oz of very cold carbonated water (club soda or seltzer) into the glass over the back of a spoon or down the side to preserve carbonation. Pour gently to avoid excessive foaming.

  5. 5

    Stir gently

Using a long bar spoon or straw, gently stir the mixture 2โ€“3 times to incorporate syrup and carbonated water without flattening the bubbles.

  6. 6

    Adjust sweetness and flavor (optional)

Taste and, if desired, add another 0.25โ€“0.5 fl oz diet cola concentrate for a stronger cola flavor, or a few drops of lime juice for brightness. Stir once more gently.

  7. 7

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lime wedge or slice on the rim and an optional mint sprig. Serve immediately while cold and fizzy.

Garnish (optional)

  1. 8

Cut a thin lime wheel or wedge and place on the glass rim, or drop into the drink. Clap a mint sprig between your palms to release aromatics and place atop the drink for a fresh scent.
