Bolognese Sauce

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Use about 4 liters of water for 400 grams of spaghetti.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, typically around 8-10 minutes until al dente. Stir occasionally.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water for later use if needed.

Preparing the Bolognese Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  2. 5

    Brown the Meat

Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 6

    Add Garlic and Tomatoes

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Add the crushed canned tomatoes and tomato paste, mixing well.

  4. 7

    Deglaze with Wine

Pour in the red wine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes until the alcohol evaporates.

  5. 8

    Season the Sauce

Stir in the Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Allow the sauce to simmer on low heat for at least 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving

  1. 9

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the Bolognese sauce, tossing well to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.

  2. 10

    Garnish and Serve

Serve the pasta Bolognese hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese. Enjoy!
