Method

Bread & Toppings

1

Prepare garlic butter

Soften the unsalted butter at room temperature (about 20–30 minutes) or gently melt in a microwave for 10–15 seconds until spreadable but not hot. In a medium bowl combine softened butter, minced garlic, finely chopped parsley, grated Parmesan (if using), salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix thoroughly until evenly combined and smooth.

2

Prep the bread

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Using a serrated knife, slice the baguette in half lengthwise. If you prefer pull-apart style, alternatively slice the loaf crosswise into 1-inch thick slices without cutting all the way through (stop ~1/4 inch from the bottom) so slices remain attached.

3

Assemble

Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut surfaces of the bread halves (or gently spread between the crosswise slices so butter gets into each piece). If you want a crisper exterior, lightly brush the cut surfaces with the optional olive oil.

4

Bake

Place the prepared bread on a baking sheet lined with foil (buttered side up). Bake in the preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 10–14 minutes, until butter is melted and the edges begin to turn golden. For extra browning and a crisp top, switch the oven to broil on high for 1–2 minutes—watch closely to avoid burning.

5

Finish & serve

Remove the bread from the oven. If made as halves, sprinkle additional chopped parsley and a light dusting of Parmesan if desired. If cross-sliced, separate the slices slightly. Let rest 1–2 minutes, then slice (if halves) and serve warm.
