Baklava Ingredients
Method
Baklava Directions
Prepare the Nut Mixture
In a bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.
Prepare the Phyllo Dough
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan. Lay out one sheet of phyllo dough in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Brush the sheet lightly with melted butter. Repeat this process, layering and buttering a total of 8 sheets.
Layer the Filling
Sprinkle a portion of the nut mixture over the layered phyllo. Continue layering with 4 more sheets of phyllo, buttering each layer. Repeat this process until all the nut mixture is used, finishing with a top layer of 8 buttered phyllo sheets.
Cut the Baklava
Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, until golden brown.
Soak the Baklava
Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava. Allow it to soak for at least 4 hours or overnight for best flavor.
