Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed until well combined.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Beat the Butter

In a mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter on high speed until creamy.

  2. 8

    Add Cocoa Powder

Sift in the unsweetened cocoa powder and mix until combined.

  3. 9

    Add Powdered Sugar and Milk

Gradually add the powdered sugar and whole milk, mixing on low speed until incorporated. Then beat on high speed for 1-2 minutes until fluffy.

  4. 10

    Finish with Vanilla

Add the vanilla extract and mix until well combined.

  5. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
