Method

Preparing the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Mix the Meat

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until well combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indent in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the hot grill or skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip them over.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

After flipping, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked to your desired doneness.

Assembling the Cheeseburgers

  1. 6

    Prepare the Buns and Toppings

While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and onion. Rinse the lettuce leaves and set aside.

  2. 7

    Assemble the Burgers

Toast the burger buns if desired. On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, and onion slices. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then top with the other half of the bun.
