Method
Cocktail
Dry shake (optional)
For a slightly frothier texture, add the tequila, gold rum, yellow chartreuse, lemon juice, honey syrup, orange bitters, and optional gold liqueur to a cocktail shaker without ice. Seal and shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
Shake with ice
Add a handful of ice to the shaker (enough to fill about two-thirds). Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker becomes very cold and slightly frosted.
Strain
Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass (or an old-fashioned glass if you prefer). Use a fine mesh strainer in addition to the shaker strainer to remove small ice shards and any pulp.
Serve on the rocks (alternative)
If you prefer the KingMidas served over ice, fill an old-fashioned glass with one large ice cube or 3 large ice cubes and pour the shaken cocktail over the ice.
Garnish
If using edible gold leaf, carefully apply a small flake to the surface of the cocktail or onto the lemon twist using tweezers. Use sparingly; the gold is purely decorative.
