Method
Base Mix
Combine dry ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the quick-cooking rolled oats, protein powder, dry milk powder, ground flaxseed, maltodextrin (if using) and salt until evenly distributed.
If you prefer a smoother texture, pulse the oat and protein mixture in a spice grinder or blender for 3–5 seconds to reduce oat grit. Transfer back to the bowl.
Flavor & Sweeteners
Stir the brown sugar (or coconut sugar), cocoa powder (if using), ground cinnamon and vanilla extract into the dry base mix until fully incorporated. Taste a small pinch and adjust sweetness or cocoa to preference.
Fat & Texture
Fold in the natural peanut butter (or almond butter) so it forms small clumps throughout the dry mix. If the butter is very stiff, warm it briefly (5–10 seconds) to soften. Stir in chopped nuts and chia seeds if using.
Hydration & Serving
Add 1 cup of water or milk to a blender or shaker bottle, then add 1/2 cup banana (if using), the dry mix (all of it) and ice if desired.
Blend on high for 30–45 seconds until smooth (or secure the lid on the shaker bottle and shake vigorously for 30 seconds). Check consistency and add more water/milk 1–2 tablespoons at a time to reach your preferred thickness.
Pour into a tall glass and serve immediately. For a portable option, place the mixture in an airtight container and refrigerate; consume within 24 hours (shake/stir before drinking).
