Tea Preparation

Method

Tea Preparation

1

Boil Water

Pour 2 cups (about 480 ml) of fresh cold water into a kettle or small pot. Heat until the water reaches a rolling boil (for black tea) or just below boiling (around 175–185°F / 80–85°C for green tea). If using an electric kettle with temperature settings, set according to the tea type.

2

Steep Tea

Place 1 tea bag into a mug. Pour the hot water over the tea bag, filling the mug. Let the tea steep: 3–5 minutes for black tea, 2–3 minutes for green tea, and 5–7 minutes for herbal tea. Adjust steep time to taste (longer gives stronger, more astringent tea for black tea).

3

Sweeten and Finish

Remove the tea bag, gently pressing it against the mug with a spoon if you like a stronger brew. Stir in 1 tsp honey or sugar (adjust to taste). If using, add 2 tbsp milk or non-dairy milk and stir until combined. Squeeze the lemon wedge into the tea if you prefer a citrus note (do not add lemon when using milk — it can curdle). Taste and adjust sweetener, milk, or lemon as desired.

4

Serve immediately while hot. Optionally garnish with an extra lemon slice or a cinnamon stick. Dispose of the used tea bag or compost it.
