Method
Tea base
Bring water to a simmer
Pour 300 ml fresh cold water into a small saucepan. Bring the water to a gentle simmer over medium heat — do not let it reach a rolling boil to preserve tea clarity and reduce bitterness (about 3–4 minutes).
Steep the tea
Remove the pan from heat, add 2 tsp black tea leaves, and cover. Let steep for 3–4 minutes for a strong, robust flavor characteristic of Meia de Leite. If you prefer a stronger brew, steep up to 5 minutes.
Strain the tea into a heatproof container or directly into the serving cup, discarding the used leaves.
Milk & sweetener
Heat milk
In a separate small saucepan, combine 150 ml whole milk and 1 tsp granulated sugar. Warm gently over low–medium heat until steam appears and small bubbles form at the edge (do not boil), about 2–3 minutes.
If you prefer frothy Meia de Leite, use a hand frother for 10–20 seconds or vigorously whisk the warmed milk to create light foam.
Assemble & finish
Sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon and/or nutmeg on top if using. Serve immediately while hot.
