Method

Tea base

1

Bring water to a simmer

Pour 300 ml fresh cold water into a small saucepan. Bring the water to a gentle simmer over medium heat — do not let it reach a rolling boil to preserve tea clarity and reduce bitterness (about 3–4 minutes).

2

Steep the tea

Remove the pan from heat, add 2 tsp black tea leaves, and cover. Let steep for 3–4 minutes for a strong, robust flavor characteristic of Meia de Leite. If you prefer a stronger brew, steep up to 5 minutes.

3

Strain the tea into a heatproof container or directly into the serving cup, discarding the used leaves.

Milk & sweetener

4

Heat milk

In a separate small saucepan, combine 150 ml whole milk and 1 tsp granulated sugar. Warm gently over low–medium heat until steam appears and small bubbles form at the edge (do not boil), about 2–3 minutes.

5

Add condensed milk

Stir in 1 tbs sweetened condensed milk until fully dissolved and integrated. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding up to another 1/2 tbs condensed milk or 1/2 tsp sugar if desired.

6

If you prefer frothy Meia de Leite, use a hand frother for 10–20 seconds or vigorously whisk the warmed milk to create light foam.

Assemble & finish

7

Combine the strained hot tea and warmed milk in a ratio that approximates 'meia' (half): pour about 150 ml of the steeped tea into the serving cup and then pour the 150 ml warmed milk mixture on top. Stir gently to combine.

8

Sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon and/or nutmeg on top if using. Serve immediately while hot.
