Firecracker Shrimp

Sweet & Spicy Glaze

Method

Preparing the Firecracker Shrimp

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Prepare Wet Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the egg and water until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet and Dry

Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth batter forms.

  4. 4

    Heat Oil

Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat until hot.

  5. 5

    Fry Shrimp

Dip each shrimp into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, and carefully place in the hot oil.

  6. 6

    Drain Fried Shrimp

Fry shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Making the Sweet & Spicy Glaze

  1. 7

    Mix Glaze Ingredients

In a small saucepan, combine honey, sriracha sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and minced ginger.

  2. 8

    Simmer Glaze

Heat over medium heat, stirring until the mixture comes to a simmer.

  3. 9

    Thicken Glaze

Once simmering, reduce heat and let it cook for 5 minutes to thicken slightly.

Preparing the Honey-Ginger Slaw

  1. 10

    Mix Vegetables

In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage and shredded carrots.

  2. 11

    Prepare Slaw Dressing

In a small bowl, whisk together honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and salt.

  3. 12

    Dress Slaw

Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrots, and toss to coat evenly.

  4. 13

    Add Green Onions

Add sliced green onions and mix gently.

Bringing It All Together

  1. 14

    Coat Shrimp with Glaze

Toss the fried shrimp in the sweet and spicy glaze until well coated.

  2. 15

    Plate the Dish

Serve the glazed shrimp over a bed of honey-ginger slaw.
