Method
Preparing the Bagel Dough
- 1
Mixing Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir until well mixed.
- 2
Adding Wet Ingredients
Gradually add the warm water and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until the dough starts to come together.
- 3
Kneading the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- 4
Letting the Dough Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping the Bagels
- 5
Dividing the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
- 6
Shaping the Bagels
Roll each piece of dough into a ball, then poke a hole through the center with your finger to form a bagel shape. Gently stretch the hole to about 2 inches in diameter.
- 7
Resting the Shaped Bagels
Place the shaped bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them rest for about 10-15 minutes.
Boiling and Baking
- 8
Preparing the Boiling Solution
In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add the baking soda.
- 9
Boiling the Bagels
Carefully drop the bagels into the boiling water, a few at a time, and boil for about 1 minute on each side.
- 10
Applying Everything Seasoning
Remove the bagels with a slotted spoon and place them back on the baking sheet. Immediately sprinkle the everything seasoning on top.
- 11
