Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

Make the Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.

Coat the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring into the egg mixture, then coat it in the flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour.

Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).

Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in small batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Cook the Sauce
Bring the sauce to a simmer and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
