Method
Cocktail
- 1
Measure & combine
Add 2 oz Elijah Craig bourbon, 0.25 oz simple syrup, 4 dashes local cherry vanilla bitters, and 1 dash angostura bitters (optional) into a mixing glass or directly into a chilled lowball glass if you prefer no straining.
- 2
Add ice & stir
Fill the mixing glass with large cubed ice (or pour the mixture over the large serving ice cube in the lowball). Stir gently for 20–30 seconds until properly chilled and slightly diluted (target about 20–25% dilution of initial spirit volume). If stirring in a separate mixing glass, strain into the chilled lowball over the large clear ice cube.
Garnish & Finish
- 3
Express orange oils
Hold an orange peel over the glass, skin side down, and give it a firm squeeze to express the oils across the drink surface. Optionally, run the peel around the rim to add aroma.
- 4
Garnish
Drop 1 Luxardo cherry into the drink and rest the expressed orange peel on the rim or twist it and drop it in. Serve immediately.
Service Tips
- 5
Use a large clear ice cube or sphere to slow dilution and maintain clarity. Adjust simple syrup between 0.25–0.5 oz to taste depending on how sweet or pronounced the cherry vanilla bitters are.
