Method

Cocktail

1

Measure and add

In a mixing glass or short stirring glass, pour 2 oz bourbon, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

2

Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with ice (enough to chill without overly diluting). Stir gently for 20–30 seconds until the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted (about 15–20% reduction in temperature).

3

Prepare glass

Place one large ice cube (or fresh ice) into a chilled old-fashioned or rocks glass.

4

Strain

Using a cocktail strainer, strain the chilled bourbon mixture into the prepared glass over the large ice cube.

5

Express and garnish

Take the orange peel and hold it over the drink, skin side down. Give it a firm twist to express the oils onto the surface, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass as garnish.
