Sandwich
Method
Sandwich
- 1
Prepare bread and peanut butter
Lay the two slices of bread flat on a clean surface or plate. Using a knife, spread about 1 tablespoon of peanut butter evenly over one side of each slice. If you prefer more peanut butter, increase to taste, but ensure even coverage to help the banana slices adhere.
- 2
Slice the banana
Peel the banana and slice it into 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick rounds. If you want a creamier texture, you can slice the banana lengthwise into long halves instead.
- 3
Assemble the sandwich
Arrange the banana slices in a single layer over the peanut-buttered side of one slice of bread. If using honey or maple syrup, drizzle the teaspoon lightly over the banana slices. Sprinkle a very small pinch of salt over the banana/honey layer if using to enhance flavor. Place the second slice of bread peanut-butter-side-down on top to form a sandwich.
- 4
Optional: Grill the sandwich
If you want the sandwich warm and slightly crisp, heat a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Spread the teaspoon of butter evenly over the outside of each slice of bread (buttered side facing out). Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook 2 to 3 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until golden brown and the peanut butter is warm. Flip carefully and cook the other side.
- 5
Cut and serve
Remove the sandwich from the skillet (if grilled) or proceed directly if unheated. Place on a cutting board and cut diagonally or down the middle, as preferred. Serve immediately.
