Syrup Base

Garnish & Service

Method

Syrup Base

  1. 1

    Mix syrup components

In a heatproof small bowl or measuring cup, combine the cherry syrup, vanilla syrup, almond (or orgeat) syrup, molasses (or brown sugar syrup), and caramel syrup. Stir thoroughly until homogeneous. If your syrups are thick, warm the mixture briefly (5–10 seconds) in the microwave or place the bowl over warm water to loosen and combine.

  2. 2

    Prepare soda

Chill the plain carbonated cola-style soda thoroughly (ideally well chilled, 35–45°F / 2–7°C). Pour 4 cups of the chilled soda into a pitcher and gently stir to avoid flattening the carbonation.

  3. 3

    Integrate syrups and soda

Add the combined syrup mix to the chilled soda. Stir gently 6–8 times with a long spoon, mixing just enough to distribute the syrup evenly without losing too much fizz.

Spice & Citrus Notes

  1. 4

    Add spice and citrus

Sprinkle in the ground allspice, ground cinnamon, freshly grated nutmeg, and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper. Add the fresh lemon and lime juices. Stir gently one more time to incorporate. Taste and adjust: add an extra 1/4–1/2 tsp cherry or vanilla syrup if you prefer sweeter, or another small pinch of black pepper if you want a more pronounced warm bite.

  2. 5

Let the mixture rest 2–3 minutes in the refrigerator to allow the flavors to marry while keeping carbonation.

Garnish & Service

  1. 6

    Serve

Fill tall glasses with 1/2 cup ice each (about 2 cups total used for the recipe). Pour about 1 cup of the prepared Dr Pepper-style drink per serving (the recipe makes approximately 4 servings of 1 cup each). Garnish each glass with a maraschino or fresh cherry and a lemon wheel on the rim.

  2. 7

Optional: For fountain-style presentation, dispense through a soda gun or soda siphon at service and top with an extra cherry; serve immediately to preserve carbonation.
