Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti and a pinch of salt. Cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making Tomato Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion. Sauté until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Mix well to combine.

  3. 6

    Simmer Sauce

Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 7

    Finish Sauce with Basil

Once the sauce has thickened, stir in the chopped basil leaves. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.

Combining Pasta and Sauce

  1. 8

    Combine

Add the drained spaghetti to the saucepan with the tomato sauce. Toss gently until the spaghetti is well coated with the sauce.

  2. 9

    Serve

Plate the spaghetti and garnish with additional basil leaves if desired. Serve immediately.
