Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Mussels

Rinse the mussels under cold running water to remove any sand or debris. Scrub the shells with a brush to ensure they are clean. Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Aromatics

Mince the garlic and chop the fresh parsley. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Lemon

Cut the lemon in half. Squeeze the juice from one half and set aside. Slice the other half into wedges for serving.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a large pot or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant but not browned.

  2. 5

    Add the Mussels

Add the cleaned mussels to the pot. If using, pour in the white wine and season with salt and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  3. 6

    Steam the Mussels

Cover the pot with a lid and increase the heat to high. Steam the mussels for about 5-7 minutes, shaking the pot occasionally, until the mussels open up.

  4. 7

    Add Fresh Herbs

Once the mussels are open, remove the pot from heat and stir in the chopped parsley and lemon juice. Discard any mussels that remain closed.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate the Mussels

Transfer the steamed mussels to a serving bowl or platter. Drizzle with any remaining broth from the pot.

  2. 9

    Garnish and Serve

Garnish with lemon wedges and additional parsley if desired. Serve immediately with crusty bread to soak up the delicious broth.
