Mimosa Base

Method
Preparation
Chill ingredients
Place the bottle of Champagne or sparkling wine and the fresh-squeezed orange juice in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving so both are very cold. Cold ingredients preserve bubbles and keep the drink crisp.
Mixing & Serving
Optional sweetening or liqueur
If you prefer a slightly sweeter or more complex mimosa, add about 2 teaspoons of simple syrup or 2 teaspoons of orange liqueur (Cointreau/Grand Marnier) into the bottom of each flute before adding juice. Stir gently to combine. This step is optional.
Assemble mimosas
Pour 1/2 cup (approximately) of chilled orange juice into each chilled flute (this yields about a 1:3 juice-to-champagne ratio per flute when using 1 bottle and 3 cups juice for 6 servings). Hold the flute at a slight angle and slowly pour the chilled sparkling wine into each glass to top, pouring down the side to minimize excessive foaming. Aim to leave a small head of bubbles at the top.
Garnish and serve
Garnish each flute with an orange wheel or twist on the rim, or drop a berry into the glass if desired. Serve immediately while the bubbles are lively.
Notes on ratios
Classic mimosa ratio varies from 1:1 to 1:3 (Champagne:juice). This recipe uses approximately 1 bottle of sparkling wine to 3 cups of juice for 6 flutes (~1:3 sparkling-to-juice by volume). Adjust proportions to personal preference.
