Cocktail
Chill glass
Place an Old Fashioned glass (rocks glass) in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice and water to chill while you prepare the drink.
Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour 2 oz Bulleit Bourbon, 1 oz sweet vermouth, and add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
Stir
Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full turns) until well chilled and slightly diluted. Aim for a silky, cold mixture rather than a cloudy shaken texture.
Prepare glass
If you chilled the glass with ice and water, discard that ice and water now. Add a single large ice cube (or several large cubes) to the chilled Old Fashioned glass.
Strain and garnish
Strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared Old Fashioned glass over the large ice cube. Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down over the glass and giving it a firm squeeze, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the balance of Bulleit’s spiced, high-rye character with sweet vermouth and bitters.
