Cocktail Base

Method

Watermelon Ice & Prep

1

Make watermelon ice cubes

Place the 1 cup of chilled seedless watermelon cubes into a blender and blitz until smooth. Strain through a fine sieve into a measuring cup to remove any pulp if you want a clearer cube (optional). Pour the watermelon juice into one or two large cube silicone molds or an ice tray. Freeze until solid, at least 6 hours or overnight for best clarity and hardness.

2

Prepare basil

Lightly bruise 2 of the basil leaves between your palms to release aroma and set aside for garnish. Reserve the remaining 2 leaves for a light muddle with the watermelon if you prefer stronger herbal notes (see cocktail assembly).

Cocktail Assembly

3

Chill glass

If desired, chill an old-fashioned/rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice and water to cool while you prepare the cocktail, then discard before pouring.

4

Muddle (optional)

If you want a pronounced basil-watermelon note, place the reserved 2 basil leaves in a mixing glass and add a small splash (about 1/4 oz) of the watermelon juice (from the batch you used to make ice). Gently muddle once or twice—just to bruise, not shred—to release oils.

5

Combine spirits

Add 1 oz Malfy Lemon Gin, 1 oz Luxardo Bianco, and 1 oz Martini Bianco into a mixing glass filled with ice (if you muddled, add them to the muddled basil and splash).

6

Stir and dilute

Stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full rotations) until well chilled and properly diluted (target temperature ~5°C / 41°F). This blends the white vermouths and gin while integrating the basil/watermelon note.

7

Prepare serving

Place a single large frozen watermelon ice cube (or two medium cubes) into the chilled rocks glass. If your watermelon cubes are small, use 2–3 for adequate chill.

8

Strain and finish

Strain the stirred cocktail over the watermelon ice cube(s) into the serving glass. Express a lemon zest over the drink if using, rub the rim with the peel, and discard or drop the twist in. Add 1–2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top if you want added spice (optional).

9

Garnish and serve

Garnish with the bruised basil leaves or a small basil sprig tucked beside the ice. Serve immediately so the watermelon ice gradually melts and imparts a subtle, cooling watermelon note to the Negroni Cocomero.

Notes & Serving Suggestions

10

If you prefer a sweeter or fruitier profile, increase the watermelon cube size (more melt) or replace up to 0.5 oz of one vermouth with extra watermelon juice before freezing (adjust balance). For a lighter cocktail, reduce each spirit by 0.25 oz and add 0.5 oz watermelon juice to maintain volume.
