Salted Caramel Protein Base

Garnish (optional)

Method

If making homemade salted caramel (optional)

1

Make quick caramel

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar and 1 tablespoon water. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture simmers. Allow it to simmer without stirring for 2–3 minutes until it darkens slightly and smells caramelized. Remove from heat, stir in 1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter and a pinch (about 1/8 tsp) of sea salt. Let cool 2–3 minutes before using.

Shake / Blend the protein drink

2

Combine base ingredients

Add 2 scoops vanilla protein powder, 1.5 cups almond milk, 3 tablespoons salted caramel syrup (or 2–3 tablespoons of the homemade caramel), and 1 teaspoon sea salt to a blender. If using Greek yogurt or heavy cream for extra creaminess, add now.

3

Adjust sweetness and flavor

Taste the liquid (using a spoon) before adding ice. If you want it sweeter or more caramel-forward, add the 1 teaspoon maple syrup or another 1/2 tablespoon caramel. If you want a coffee note, add 1/4 cup cooled espresso or strong coffee at this stage.

4

Add ice and blend

Add 1 cup ice cubes to the blender. Blend on high for 30–45 seconds until smooth and frothy. If too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of milk; if too thin, add a few more ice cubes or 1/2 scoop protein.

5

Finish and season

Taste and finish by adding a small pinch of sea salt (up to the remaining 1/4 teaspoon) to enhance the salted caramel profile. Blend 5–10 seconds more to incorporate.

Serve and garnish

6

Drizzle 1 tablespoon extra salted caramel sauce around the inside of a tall glass. Pour the blended protein salted caramel into the glass.

7

Sprinkle toasted chopped pecans or peanuts on top and finish with a small pinch (about 1/8–1/4 tsp) of sea salt flakes. Serve immediately with a straw.
