Coffee

Milk

Method

Coffee

1

Pull espresso

Brew a double shot of espresso (about 60 ml) using an espresso machine. Use freshly ground coffee (18–20 g) and pull a 25–30 second shot for best flavor.

2

Add hot water

Pour approximately 90 ml of hot water (Just off-boil, about 90–95°C) into a pre-warmed mug or glass. Pour the brewed espresso over the hot water to create an Americano base. Stir gently once to combine.

Milk

3

Steam or heat milk

Steam 120 ml whole milk with a steam wand until it reaches 60–65°C and has a velvety microfoam. If you don't have a steam wand, heat the milk on the stove or in the microwave until hot (not boiling) and froth with a handheld frother to create a small amount of foam (about 20 ml).

4

Combine milk and coffee

Slowly pour the steamed/ heated milk into the Americano base, holding back the foam with a spoon. Aim for a ratio where the final drink is roughly one part espresso, one part hot water, and one part milk (adjust to taste). Spoon the reserved foam on top if you made it.

Finishing & optional additions

5

Sweeten or flavor if desired: stir in sugar or 15 ml flavored syrup to taste. Do this after combining milk so it dissolves evenly.

6

Garnish: dust a light sprinkle of cocoa or cinnamon on top of the foam for aroma and presentation.

7

Serve immediately: serve the Americano Misto hot in a pre-warmed 10–12 oz (300–350 ml) mug. Provide a spoon for stirring if additions were used.
