Method
Cocktail
Prepare glass
Chill a copper mug or highball glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while preparing ingredients.
Build the cocktail
Discard ice water if used. Add crushed ice to the chilled mug until about three-quarters full (reserve some ice for topping). Pour in 2 oz vodka, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz elderflower liqueur, and 0.25 oz activated charcoal syrup.
Top with ginger beer
Gently pour 4 oz chilled ginger beer over the back of a spoon (if desired) to retain a layered look. Stir twice gently with a bar spoon to integrate the ingredients without losing carbonation.
Add bitters
Float 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top by dropping them gently near the rim; the bitters will create subtle aromatic notes and visual texture against the dark cocktail.
Garnish & Finish
Finish and present: Lightly clap the mint sprig between your palms to release oils, then tuck it into the mug near the rim. Place a lime wheel on the rim or float it atop the drink. If using edible silver dust or shimmer, very lightly sprinkle about 1/4 tsp over the top for a moonlit shimmer. Top with a small amount of additional crushed ice if desired.
Serve: Provide a straw and serve immediately while chilled. Advise guests to stir before sipping to distribute the shimmer and charcoal syrup evenly.
