Method
Espresso & Coffee Base
Brew and chill espresso
Brew a double shot (about 2 oz) of fresh espresso. Immediately pour it into a small container and place in the freezer or an ice bath for 2–3 minutes to cool quickly. If your espresso is very concentrated or hot, add 0.5 oz cold water to slightly temper and adjust strength.
Liqueurs & Spirit
Measure spirits
Measure 2 oz vodka and 0.75 oz coffee liqueur into a jigger or measuring cup and set aside until shaking.
Sweetener & Optional Flavor
Add 0.25 oz simple syrup (adjust to taste) and 2 dashes coffee bitters if using. These will balance bitterness and add complexity.
Shake & Chill
Dry shake (optional)
To build a creamier, frothier top, combine the cooled espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur, simple syrup, and bitters in a cocktail shaker and dry shake (no ice) vigorously for 10–15 seconds.
Wet shake
Add a generous amount of ice (enough to fill the shaker about two-thirds) and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and the mixture is well chilled.
Double strain the cocktail into a chilled martini or coupe glass to remove ice chips and produce a clean, silky texture with a light crema on top.
Serve & Garnish
Garnish with 3 whole coffee beans placed on the crema. Serve immediately.
