Marinara Sauce Ingredients
Method
Breadstick Directions
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Mix well.
Combine Ingredients
Once the yeast is activated, add it to the dry ingredients along with the olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Shape Breadsticks
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long stick shape.
Second Rise
Place the shaped breadsticks on a greased baking sheet, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
Bake
Bake the breadsticks in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Add Toppings
Remove from the oven and immediately brush with olive oil and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
Marinara Sauce Directions
Cook Sauce
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
Simmer
Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve
Once the sauce has thickened, remove from heat and serve warm alongside the breadsticks.
