Method
Cooking Pasta
Boil the Spaghetti
In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Making the Sauce
Sauté Garlic
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Combining and Baking
Combine Pasta and Sauce
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti and the marinara sauce. Mix well to ensure all the spaghetti is coated with sauce.
Prepare for Baking
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the spaghetti mixture to a greased baking dish. Spread it evenly.
Top with Cheese
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top of the spaghetti.
Bake
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Garnish and Serve
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes. If desired, garnish with fresh chopped basil before serving.
