Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to properly chill it.

2

Measure and combine

In a mixing glass or Boston shaker (unshaken), add the measured 2 oz gin, 1 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz Lillet Blanc, 0.25 oz maraschino liqueur, and 2 dashes of orange bitters.

3

Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with ice (about 1 cup or enough to come near the top). Using a long bar spoon, stir gently but steadily for 25–30 seconds (about 20–30 rotations) until the mixture is well chilled, slightly diluted, and the outside of the mixing glass is frosty.

4

Prepare glass

If you used ice water to chill the glass, discard the ice water now and dry the glass briefly so it's cold but not watered down.

5

Strain

Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass to remove any small ice shards.

Garnish & Finish

6

Express the lemon peel over the surface of the drink by holding it between thumb and forefinger and giving it a quick twist so the oils spray over the cocktail. Run the peel around the rim if desired, then drop the twist into the drink or discard per preference.

7

Optionally, drop a Luxardo cherry into the glass for a hint of sweetness and an elegant presentation.

8

Serve immediately. The 'Double L' is a bright, slightly floral and nutty-styled stirred cocktail best enjoyed chilled and sipped slowly.
