Toppings

Method

Preparing the Burger Patties

1

Mash the Black Beans

In a large mixing bowl, mash the cooked black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

2

Combine Ingredients

Add the cooked quinoa, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper to the mashed black beans. Mix until well combined.

3

Form Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick.

4

Cook Patties

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown and heated through.

Assembling the Burger

5

Prepare Toppings

While the patties are cooking, slice the ripe avocado and wash the lettuce leaves.

6

Toast Buns

If desired, toast the burger buns in a toaster or on a skillet until lightly browned.

7

Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each burger bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a patty. Top with sliced avocado and a generous spoonful of salsa. Place the top half of the bun on each burger.
