Method

Preparation

1

Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Cut the calamari into rings, about 1/2 inch thick.

2

Make the Coating

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

3

Coat the Calamari

Dredge the calamari rings in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Ensure each piece is thoroughly coated.

4

Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

5

Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

6

Drain

Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried calamari to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

7

Serve

Serve the fried calamari hot with spicy marinara sauce for dipping and lemon wedges on the side.
