Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass add 2 oz Angel's Envy bourbon, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz orange curaçao, 0.25 oz simple syrup, 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters.

  3. 3

    Stir

Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes (about 3–4). Stir gently but thoroughly for 25–30 seconds until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (aim for roughly 20–25% dilution by weight).

  4. 4

    Prepare garnish

Discard ice from the chilled serving glass. Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin side down over the glass and giving it a firm twist, then rub the peel's rim on the glass.

  5. 5

    Strain and serve

Double-strain the stirred cocktail into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass using a julep or hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove tiny ice shards. Garnish with the expressed orange peel twist dropped or floated on top.

  6. 6

    Optional flame (for aroma)

For added aromatic impact, briefly flame the expressed orange peel: hold the peel between a lighter and the glass, skin side toward the flame, and squeeze once so a small burst of orange oil passes through the flame onto the surface of the drink. Use caution and keep flame away from hands and alcohol bottle.
