Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Build and Stir

Add rye whiskey (2 oz), amaro (1/2 oz), sweet vermouth (1/2 oz), Benedictine (1/4 oz), and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to a mixing glass. Fill the mixing glass with ice (enough to come near the top) and stir briskly for 20–30 seconds until well-chilled and slightly diluted (about 20–25% dilution by weight).

  2. 2

    Strain

Double-strain or use a julep/ Hawthorne strainer to pour the chilled mixture into a chilled chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass (or an Old-Fashioned glass over a large ice cube if you prefer it on the rocks).

  3. 3

    Garnish

Express the oils of an orange peel over the surface of the cocktail by holding the peel skin-side down above the glass and giving it a quick squeeze, then rub the rim with the peel and drop the peel into the drink (or discard) as garnish.

  4. 4

    Serve immediately.
