Jamón ibérico
Accompaniments (optional)
Method
Jamón ibérico
- 1
Bring to serving temperature
Remove the jamón from refrigeration 20–30 minutes before serving so the fat softens and the aroma develops. Keep slices laid flat in their original packaging or on a plate covered lightly with plastic wrap while they come to temperature.
- 2
Plate the ham
Arrange the 80 g of thinly sliced jamón ibérico on a roomy, slightly warm serving plate. Overlap slices in an attractive fan so each piece lies flat and the marbling is visible. Avoid piling — a single layer shows texture and aroma best.
- 3
Finish (optional)
If desired, very lightly drizzle up to 1 teaspoon of high-quality extra-virgin olive oil over a few slices to enhance mouthfeel. Add a small pinch of freshly ground black pepper to taste only if it complements your palate; traditionally jamón is served plain.

Prepare bread
If using crusty country bread, cut into 2 thin slices and lightly toast or warm. Toasting helps maintain structure under the ham without overpowering its flavor.

Assemble cheese and condiments
Arrange 30 g Manchego cheese slices, 20 g Marcona or roasted almonds, and 30 g sliced fresh figs or a few small pieces of membrillo (quince paste) on the same platter or on a small separate board. These provide contrasting textures and flavors.
