Method

Cheese & Charcuterie

1

Prepare cheeses

Remove cheeses from refrigerator 30–60 minutes before serving to reach room temperature. Slice hard cheeses (cheddar, manchego) into 5 mm slices and wedges; cut brie into small wedges; leave goat cheese log whole and score lightly or provide a small cheese knife for spreading.

2

Prep Parmesan

Use a vegetable peeler to shave thin curls from the Parmesan wedge and reserve on a small dish for garnish.

3

Arrange cured meats

Fold or roll slices of prosciutto and salami into loose rosettes or tubes. Stack heavier slices (soppressata) in overlapping rows. Keep similar textures together to make selection easy for guests.

Bread & Crackers

4

Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Brush both sides of baguette slices lightly with olive oil and arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet. Toast in oven 6–8 minutes, flipping once, until golden and crisp. Cool on a rack.

5

Arrange water crackers and multigrain crackers in small piles or fan them on the platter; place toasted baguette slices near soft cheeses for spreading.

Fresh & Pickled

6

Rinse and thoroughly dry grapes; keep some on stems for presentation and remove some loose clusters for ease of picking. Pit or halve large grapes if desired.

7

Drain olives and cornichons well. Place olives in a small bowl (optionally toss with a splash of olive oil and a few thyme leaves). Place cornichons in a separate small bowl.

8

Arrange dried apricots and toasted Marcona almonds in small piles or bowls on the platter for variety and texture contrast.

Spreads & Garnishes

9

Spoon fig jam and whole grain mustard into small condiment bowls. Place honey in a narrow pouring vessel or small bowl with a honey dipper. Position these near cheeses that pair well (fig jam by brie/goat cheese; honey near blue/aged cheddar).

10

Tuck rosemary and thyme sprigs between items for fragrance and visual appeal. Scatter a few Parmesan shavings and edible flowers (if using) around the board for color.

Vegetable Crudités (optional section)

11

Wash and dry vegetables. Trim carrots and cucumbers to bite-size sticks if necessary. Arrange crudités in small groups or radial patterns on the platter. Provide a small bowl of dip if desired (not included in ingredients).

Assembly & Presentation

12

Choose a large wooden board or platter that serves up to 10. Start by positioning larger items: bowls with olives/cornichons, jam, mustard, and honey. Place cheeses spaced apart so guests can access knives without crossing other items.

13

Fill gaps with clusters of grapes, rolled cured meats, crackers, toasted baguette slices, dried fruit, and nuts. Vary heights by stacking some crackers against cheese wedges or using small ramekins. Keep textures balanced across the board (soft vs. crunchy).

14

Garnish with fresh herb sprigs and a few Parmesan shavings and edible flowers. Provide separate cheese knives, small spoons for condiments, napkins, and small plates. Label cheeses if desired to help guests.

15

If transporting: wrap loosely with plastic wrap and secure chilled items with cooler packs. Assemble final fresh garnishes on site if possible to maintain appearance.
