Prepare the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.

Add Cheese

Grate the Welsh cheddar cheese and fold it into the batter until evenly distributed.

Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).

Fry the Fritters

Using a spoon, drop small amounts of the batter into the hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.

Serve the cheese fritters warm with red pepper jelly on the side for dipping.
