Method
Soda Base

- 2
Add ice (optional): if using ice, fill the chilled glass about three-quarters full (approximately 1 cup). Leave some room at the top for syrup and carbonation to avoid overflow.
- 3
Measure syrup: pour 2 fl oz (about 1/4 cup) of the chosen soda syrup into the glass. Adjust amount slightly to taste if you prefer stronger/ weaker flavor, but keep ratio close to 1 part syrup to 6 parts carbonated water for balanced sweetness.
- 4
Add carbonated water: slowly pour 12 fl oz carbonated water down the inside wall of the glass at a slight angle to preserve carbonation and minimize foam. Pour in two stages if foam builds—pause, let settle, then finish pouring.
- 5
Stir gently: using a long spoon or straw, stir once or twice very gently to combine syrup and carbonated water. Avoid vigorous stirring to retain fizz.
Optional Additions
- 6
Garnish: add a lemon or lime slice to the rim or drop into the glass for a citrus note. If using a maraschino cherry, drop it in as a finishing touch.
- 7
Sweeten or float: if you want extra sweetness or a layered look, drizzle up to 1/2 tablespoon flavored syrup or grenadine slowly over the back of a spoon at the surface so it sinks slightly (creates a float).
- 8
Serve immediately: serve the fountain soda right away with a straw. If foam builds or overflows, wait 10–20 seconds after pouring to allow foam to subside before serving.
