Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with olive oil. Stir until the dough begins to come together.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Flatbread Baking
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a baking stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
- 7
Prepare Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.
- 8
Shape Flatbreads
On a floured surface, roll out each ball into a flat round shape about 1/4 inch thick.
- 9
Add Toppings
Brush each flatbread with olive oil, sprinkle minced garlic, chopped rosemary, sea salt, and freshly cracked black pepper on top.
- 10
Bake Flatbreads
Carefully place the flatbreads on the preheated baking stone or baking sheet. Bake for about 8-10 minutes or until they are golden brown and puffed up.
- 11
Cool and Serve
Remove the flatbreads from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve warm with dips or as a side.
