Method
Base Margarita Mix
Make simple syrup (if not using store-bought)
Combine 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar fully dissolves. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. (You can make this ahead and refrigerate up to 2 weeks.)
In a large pitcher (at least 2 liters / 68 oz), combine 2.5 cups silver tequila, 1 cup orange liqueur, 2 cups freshly squeezed lime juice, 1 cup simple syrup (or agave syrup), and 1 cup cold water. Stir thoroughly to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity: add up to 1/4 cup more simple syrup for sweeter, or up to 1/4 cup more lime juice for tarter.
Chill the pitcher in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to let flavors marry. If short on time, add extra ice to the served glasses instead of chilling the entire pitcher.
Optional Fruit Variations (choose 1)
For a fruit-flavored pitcher, puree 2 cups of your chosen fruit (strawberries, mango, pineapple, or berries) in a blender until smooth. If you prefer a clearer beverage, strain the puree through a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds and fibrous bits—press with the back of a spoon to extract as much juice as possible.
Stir the fruit puree into the prepared base margarita mix. Start with 1 to 1 1/2 cups of puree, taste, and add up to the full 2 cups if you want a stronger fruit presence. If puree thickens the cocktail too much, add up to 1/2 cup cold water to loosen.
For a lightly muddled fruit presentation instead of pureeing: gently muddle about 1 cup of fruit in the bottom of the pitcher, then pour the base mix over top and stir.
Garnish & Finishing
Just before serving, add 4–6 cups of ice to the pitcher (or place ice in individual glasses). Add lime wheels and mint sprigs to the pitcher for visual appeal and aroma. Stir gently to chill and distribute garnish.
Storage note: keep leftover margarita refrigerated (without ice) for up to 24 hours; if the fruit was used, consume within 12 hours for best freshness.
