Method
Cocktail
Prepare the glass
Optional: Chill a rocks or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes. If you prefer a salted rim, run a lime wedge around the glass lip and dip into coarse salt or Tajín to coat lightly.
Measure and combine
Fill a cocktail shaker with the 6 ice cubes. Pour in 2 oz Patrón Silver tequila, 0.75 oz Cointreau, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice and 0.25 oz agave syrup if you want a slightly sweeter, smoother balance.
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds, until the shaker is very cold and you see condensation on the outside.
Prepare serving glass
Fill the chilled serving glass with about 1 cup of fresh ice (large cube or crushed, depending on preference).
Strain and serve
Double-strain (using a Hawthorne strainer and, if available, a fine mesh strainer) the cocktail from the shaker into the ice-filled glass to remove small shards of ice and any pulp. Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim.
Taste and adjust
Taste briefly. If the drink is too tart, add another 1/4 oz agave syrup and gently stir once. If too sweet, next time reduce agave slightly.
