Milk Preparation
For warming (optional)
Method
Milk Preparation
- 1
Serve cold
If you want milk cold and ready to drink, pour 4 cups of fresh cold whole milk into a clean glass or pitcher. If using sugar, stir in 1 tsp sugar (or to taste) until dissolved. If using vanilla, add 1 tsp vanilla extract and stir briefly. Add a pinch (0.25 tsp) of salt if desired to enhance flavor. Serve immediately over ice or chilled.
- 2
Warm on stovetop (gentle)
Pour 4 cups of whole milk into a small saucepan. Warm over low to medium-low heat, stirring frequently to prevent a skin from forming and to avoid scorching. Monitor temperature — aim for 120–140°F (49–60°C) for warm milk; do not let it boil. If using sugar, add 1 tsp and stir to dissolve. Add 1 tsp vanilla extract near the end of warming and a pinch (0.25 tsp) of salt if desired. Once warmed, remove from heat and serve immediately.

Warm using double boiler (for gentle heating)
Fill a larger saucepan with about 2 cups of water and bring it to a gentle simmer. Place 4 cups of whole milk in a heatproof bowl or smaller saucepan and set it over (not touching) the simmering water. Stir the milk occasionally until it reaches 120–140°F (49–60°C). Add optional sugar, vanilla, and salt as above. Remove the bowl from the double boiler and serve.
