Chocolate milk

Method

Chocolate milk

  1. 1

    Dissolve cocoa

Place the unsweetened cocoa powder and granulated sugar in a small bowl or measuring cup. Add the hot water (about 2 tablespoons) and whisk vigorously until the cocoa and sugar form a smooth, lump-free, glossy paste. This step ensures the cocoa disperses evenly in the milk.

  2. 2

    Combine with milk

Pour the 2 cups of cold whole milk into a large glass or small pitcher. Add the dissolved cocoa paste to the milk. Add the vanilla extract and the fine pinch of salt.

  3. 3

    Mix thoroughly

Whisk the milk and cocoa mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds until fully combined and slightly frothy, or shake vigorously in a sealed jar for 15–20 seconds.

  4. 4

    Adjust sweetness and serve

Taste and adjust sweetness if needed by adding more sugar 1/2 teaspoon at a time. If serving cold, add 3–4 ice cubes to a glass and pour the chocolate milk over them. If you prefer chilled but not diluted, refrigerate the combined mixture for 15–20 minutes before serving. Stir briefly before drinking.
